Climate scientists have long argued we need to capture and store CO2, but they want CCUS systems placed on existing emitters or used to offset unavoidable emissions. Environmentalists are horrified that oil companies want to use carbon capture to expand their emissions indefinitely.

After all, we burn fossil fuels and release CO2 to extract fossil fuels from the ground. We release more CO2 when we refine raw crude or gas into a fuel. We release all the CO2 when we use them, and bonus, we’ll soon burn more fossil fuels to capture that CO2 to prevent global warming.

Big Oil makes money off of every step in the supply chain. There’s a better way.
