The Rio Grande International Study Center is now accepting applications for its Laredo Climate Cohort 2023, a summer program that awards its participants with a $1,000 scholarship.
All of Laredo’s college and university students are welcome to apply for the program, which is in its second year of operation.
Through the program, the nonprofit hosts a series of workshops and field trips designed to teach students about climate issues that are affecting the Laredo area, teaching them to be powerful advocates for change in the community.
The program will also teach accepted applicants skills in story telling through film, community engagement, and public speaking through workshops led by local professionals.
The Climate Cohort will typically meet on Saturdays throughout the Fall from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m, with lunch, beverages and light snacks provided.
Applications are being accepted now through July 31. All accepted applicants are expected to attend all sessions and participate in the final project. A minimum of two absences will be allowed.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship, through funding by Commission Shift.
