AUSTIN – On Tuesday, January 30, the Environmental Defense Fund, Environment Texas, Public Citizen, the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club, and Commission Shift will hold a press conference outside the Texas Railroad Commission in Austin.

The Biden Administration recently finalized a new Methane Rule for the oil and gas sector, requiring oil and gas operators to update polluting equipment, monitor for leaks, and rein in wasteful routine gas flaring at oil wells. The Methane Rule is backed by major voices in industry, applauded by environmental advocates, and celebrated by the medical community. Texas has an opportunity to develop and submit a state plan to implement these standards over the next two years. As the leading oil and gas producer, no state would benefit more than Texas from the rule. Instead of supporting the development of a plan for operators in Texas to comply, the Railroad Commission is expected to request that the attorney general file another lawsuit against the federal government. Implementing the new rule would provide certainty and predictability for the industry and extend vital health and tax benefits to Texans.

WHAT: Press conference with environmental advocates.
